Welcome to the Online Magazine for lovers of fine writing! We're back in monthly format once again, and while we're still trying to get our deadlines and format sorted out, we're very pleased with the progress so far. Our current plans are to return to about the same format we had two years ago, with regular monthly issues going up the first week of each month. We're also planning to add some regular columns, please feel free to contact us with suggestions of what you would like to see covered as a monthly subject. Better yet, if you'd like to write a column, this is your chance! Feel free to contact us with any ideas or suggestions at stylophiles@comcast.net
Pelikan's newest offering, the Navona is a striking addition to the Cities series. It may not be representing a city this time, but in terms of the use of interesting colors for the cap and barrel, it's every bit as exciting as the earlier pens. The cities series have proven to be quite popular for Pelikan, probably not surprising, as they are made in the M600 size, in some great colors. A new arrival from England is the Onoto Centenary, a massive pen in solid (very solid!) sterling silver. Worth a look if you like all metal pens, and hopefully just the beginning for this new company.
As always in February, the Los Angeles Pen Show came along, and like every year, this one was a great time. We've put together a show report covering some of the events, and we'll take this opportunity to once again recommend that you make your way to a pen show as soon as possible. It's well worth the effort, just in terms of getting to see so many different pens of every type, vintage and modern. Coming up will be the Atlanta Show, April 1-3, and following that, the Chicago show, April 28-May1. A couple of special limited edition pens are also featured this month, one celebrating a website, and one the exclusive offering of a well known online retailer. When World Lux wanted something special for a limited edition, they went to Conway Stewart. Conway Stewart definitely delivered on that request! The World Lux Casien Churchill is definitely an impressive pen! Most of you are familiar with the website www.pentrace.com one of the most popular pen related websites. The subject of a possible limited edition for Pentrace was first raised on their message board a while ago, and the results of that project are now arriving. It's a bit of a departure from the norm for limited editions, most of which are high priced versions of regular models, designed more for appreciation (either of the "I made $500 on that one!" or the "I love the looks of this design" type) than for actual use. The Pentrace edition is far from that, designed first for use, and only then for appreciation! As we begin back down the road to building up a premier quality online publication, we'd especially like to thank our readers for all of their support over the last year. It's been a lot of work, and a lot of disappointment, but we're looking forward to a bright future here online! William Riepl email: stylophiles@comcast.net Editor |
